It's a Revolution
There are a couple of revolutions happening in this country both of which must be of concern to us all. They are both happening in the streets and are being led by young people who seem determined to destroy everything that used to define Saint Lucia. Those leading both revolutions seem totally oblivious to pleas for them to go back to the day when we all felt safe and secure in our way of life. Instead they seem hellbent on doing things their way. One of the revolutions needs to be stopped immediately and I will deal with that in a bit. The other cannot and should not be stopped.
Led by New Generation Soca Stage, the five year old music revolution that has been happening in Saint Lucia continues to gain momentum. We are being carried away on a wave of soca that is constantly leading us on a mission to jump and wave, get on bad, and misbehave. Violence is constantly encouraged or lauded much to the delight of those who listen. 'I coming to mash it up, take up somehtng and mash it up' still sends fans into a frenzy of unrestrained gyrating and waving.
Spectrum Quarter Finals
Only in Saint Lucia can a judge come in late for an assignment at a Quarter finals and its no big deal. With a sign of relief, I took my seat and prepared to be blown away. What I was left with instead is a burning question and no answer. Does every tent have to have a quarter finals? I am just saying.....
2009 Groovy Soca Finalists
Thirty were chosen to compete for a place in the 2009 Groovy Soca Monarch. Only twenty eight performed on the night however. Brandon suffered the same fate with the lead vocalist from T.E.M last year. The only difference was that one was Jamaican and the other Guyanese. Neither was considered Saint Lucian enough to compete. Mantius disqualified himself by failing to show up. Of the twenty eight, nineteen will do battle with defending champ, Herb Black. The nineteen qualifying finalists are as follows:
